Building Leadership

Kendall Burr, Principal

Kendall Burr has proudly served as principal of Hilltop Learning Center since it opened in 2014, and as coordinator of Blue Valley’s early childhood programs since 2009. With more than 30 years of experience in education, she brings a deep commitment to early childhood learning, special education and professional development.

She is proud of the program’s growth and the exceptional staff who bring it to life. Every adult in the program understands the importance of their role in the lives of young children and their families. The team is committed to fostering a learning environment that is both serious about learning and seriously fun.

Across the district’s early childhood classrooms, the focus is on the whole child. Teachers use developmentally appropriate practices aligned with the Kansas Early Learning Standards and implement Program-Wide Positive Behavior Supports. For children who require additional support, interventions are embedded into naturally occurring routines whenever possible.

An Iowa native, Burr earned her undergraduate degrees in early childhood and early childhood special education from the University of Northern Iowa. She completed graduate studies at Iowa State University and Pittsburg State University.

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs. She also stays busy keeping up with her two college-aged children—one attending Eastern Michigan and the other studying at her alma mater, Northern Iowa. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and baking, and balances it with jogging and yoga. She also dabbles in creative hobbies such as knitting, crocheting and cutting machine crafts.
